1.2 Find the Gap

Edvard Munch's "The Scream"

Assignment: Make a list of 10 things in your day to day life that have second-rate UX.

  1. Raking the leaves: Why should I clean up after Mother Nature if she wants to be a litterbug?
  2. *Waiting for the school bus: Never comes on time in either snow, sleet, rain, or shine.
  3. Managing home networked devices (IoE): So many WiFi enabled devices, so little understanding of how they all fit together.
  4. Running out of room in the recycle bin: It’s all fun and games until there’s no room for the empty milk carton 3 days before pickup.
  5. Email overload: Seriously. How many damn emails can one person possible be expected to read?
  6. Keeping everything charged: A USB cable! A USB cable! My kingdom for a USB cable!
  7. Remembering to drink enough water: Drink 8 glasses of water a day they said. You’ll have no problem remembering to do it they said.
  8. Emptying the dishwasher: Is the dishwasher clean? No clue. But I just emptied it anyway.
  9. Missing socks: How is it possible for one family to have more unmatched socks than matched ones?
  10. Checking my phone constantly: What else am I supposed to do with it? Call people?
